What 22K Gold is, and where you see it
22K is the usual karat for South Asian and Middle Eastern jewelry. In India the BIS hallmark shows it as 22K916. The American Gold Eagle, the South African Krugerrand and the British Sovereign are 22K bullion coins.
Hallmark stamps. 22K, 916 or 22K916. A stamp is a claim by the maker, not a test. If a piece has no stamp, ask the buyer to test it in front of you.
How it wears. At 91.67% gold, 22K is bright yellow and soft. It bends and scratches easily, so it is rarely used for rings that hold small stones.
When you sell. For a 22K bullion coin, the fine gold content is fixed: a 1 oz American Gold Eagle weighs 33.93 g and holds one troy ounce of pure gold. Value it on that ounce, not on its total weight at a jewelry rate.

Which ounce did they mean
Gold is priced in troy ounces. Kitchen and postal scales read avoirdupois ounces. They are not the same weight, so "an ounce of 22K Gold" has two different correct answers and the gap is real money.

The difference is $331.01 on one ounce of 22K Gold, because a troy ounce is 9.71% heavier. Both gram figures are exact by definition and are printed in NIST Handbook 44 Appendix C. If a buyer quotes you "per ounce", ask which ounce before you agree a price.
